5 Core Values of a Youth Alive Leader

PRAY

Definition

Prayer is a conversation where we talk with God and then listen to God.  Prayer is the starting point where we begin to grow closer to God and receive his guidance.

Scripture

Colossians 4:2 NLT  “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”

How can this core value play out in your daily life?

It is valuable for us to discipline ourselves to pray. A daily prayer life will help us walk in victory. We can pray in our bedroom, in our car, on a walk through nature, or while sitting in a classroom at school.

Challenge/Action Step

Set a time each day to pray for your friends, your school, your family, and yourself.  Remove any distractions.  Start and be consistent.

LIVE

Definition

We are called to be witnesses of Jesus. A Campus Missionary is a witness of God when they express God’s heart for others by living an authentic life connected to Jesus

Scripture

Matthew 23:23 NIV In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

How can this core value play out in your daily life?

When we let our light shine by living fully for Jesus in all areas of our life, it represents who Jesus is to us. Another way of saying it is that we show unconventional compassion for others. It can open up opportunities to share the reason we live in such a way to others.

Challenge/Action Step

This week, let your light shine. Look for ways to show compassion towards peers, family, and other adults. This could be helping another student with their homework. It could also mean that you acknowledge the hard work that someone else has done, and thank them for it. Make Living for Jesus a way of life for you, remembering that we have compassion for others as a response of the compassion Jesus shows towards us

SERVE

Definition

To be a servant, living a lifestyle of serving God, people, and meeting a need. Putting others before yourself. We are all called to something. Our assignments may be different, but the goal is the same...be servants of Christ.

Scripture

Matthew 20:28 “…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give His life a ransom for many.”

How can this core value play out in your daily life?

Meeting a need shows love and kindness, opens the heart, and opens the door of opportunity to share where that love comes from - God. When you serve people well, trust is built. Because you were there for them in their time of need, they begin to look to you as a person they can count on. If they trust you…they will eventually listen to you. God moves through people and you are one relationship away from your destiny. Serve people to the Father.

Challenge/Action Step

Observe the ones around you. Find out what they need in their life. That need may be a simple physical need like food or clothing items. Maybe you can stay after class and help your teacher staple papers. Maybe it’s an emotional need. Maybe they are just looking for someone to talk to about what’s going on in their life. Whatever the need, serve people to the best of your ability. Jesus would.

TELL

Definition

communicate information, facts, or news to someone in spoken or written words. In other words tell people your story.

Scripture

Romans 10:14 CEV  How can people have faith in the Lord and ask him to save them, if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear, unless someone tells them?

How can this core value play out in your daily life?

Who doesn't like to tell a friend about something super awesome that is happening in their lives. Maybe you play sports and you hit the game-winning shot or scored the game-winning touchdown. Maybe you were failing a class and with extra help you pulled that failing grade up to a passing grade. Maybe you are very shy but the Holy Spirit gave you the courage to pray out loud for the first time. As a campus missionary the core value "Tell" simply means to invite your friends to celebrate what Jesus is doing in your life and invite them to let Jesus do the same in their lives. Basically, "Tell" is all about you telling your story and Jesus is the hero in your story.

Challenge/Action Step

Write down the name of two friends that you would like to share your story with and pray for their hearts to be open to the things of God. Invite them out to grab a slice of pizza, a burger or some coffee with you so you can tell them all about the cool things Jesus is doing in your life.

GIVE

Definition

Give time, energy, and resources to the school campus

Scripture

Scripture - 2 Cor. 8:2-7 (NLT or MSG) Excel in Giving or A call to generous giving

What are some ways that we can GIVE?

Our Time - Let’s allow God to lead us in how we spend our time. (Practical example is space allows)

Our Energy - Let’s allow God to show us of how to disperse our energy.

Our Resources - Let’s allow God to challenge us in how to spend our time.

Challenge/Action Step

PRAY Daily - God, Please help me to find creative and innovative ways to GIVE myself to the campus for your glory! In Jesus name, Amen.
